Garbage at Big White Transfer Station
Only bagged household garbage is accepted at the Big White Transfer Station.
Please take all other waste such as: construction or demolition waste, furniture, mattresses, appliances, BBQs, wood, or other bulky refuse not accepted at our facility to a reuse center, recycling facility, or Glenmore Landfill in Kelowna.
If possible, please consider donating or recycling items instead of throwing them out as garbage.
Recycling at Big White Transfer Station
RDKB Recycling Compactor
We all want to do the right thing and recycle everything we can. But not everything is included in the RDKB’s recycling program. Please help us by using this service only for the accepted paper products, container plastic, and tin food cans. NO GLASS.
Check out the complete list of accepted items on the Big White Transfer Station Recycling & Disposal Guide (pg. 4-5 of guide)
DO NOT put glass bottles and jars, batteries, or any other kind of hazardous waste in our recycling compactor. The wrong materials compromise the whole recycling program, pose a real fire and safety risk, and increase costs for everyone.
To find out where to recycle items that are not accepted in our program, visit the Recycling Council of BC website at reyclepedia.ca who can answer questions specific to your community through the Recyclepedia search, phone, text, chat, or email.
Return-It Express & Go
Located behind the Big White Transfer Station is a Return-It Express & Go depot, which offers Big White residents a quick and easy way to recycle their refundable beverage containers.
For more information on the Express & Go program or to register for an account, visit return-it.ca/express.
Or return your bottles to Columbia Bottle Depo in Kelowna. Visit www.columbiabottle.com for locations and hours of operation.
