Animal Control

As of June 27th, the Commissionaires will no longer provide animal control services in Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks, the City of Grand Forks, Christina Lake and the City of Greenwood.   

If you have concerns, please reach out to the following depending on where you live:

  • Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks residents: please contact your Director, Linda Kay Wiese at areaddirector@rdkb.com.
  • Area C/Christina Lake, please call the RDKB Office at 250-442-2708.
  • City of Greenwood, please email City Hall at reception@greenwoodcity.ca or phone 250-445-6644.
  • The City of Grand Forks will respond to concerns regarding animal control within the City of Grand Forks. Please contact City Hall at 250-442-8266 or email info@grandforks.ca.
  • For any continued concerns related to animal welfare, concerns should be directed to the BC SPCA who can be contacted at the following: https://spca.bc.ca/ or at the ‘Animal Helpline’ at 1-855-622-7722.

Buy your 2025 dog tags before January 31, 2025 to save money!

Dog owners in Grand Forks, Greenwood, electoral areas C/Christina Lake and D/Rural Grand Forks can renew or buy a dog tag/licence at a reduced fee until January 31.  Give us a call today!

RDKB Bylaw No. 1550 requires all dogs more than four months old to be licensed. Greenwood residents should also see Bylaw 1568.

Dog tags will be on sale at the standard rate from February 1, 2025.  In the event that you require a new dog tag, we will be happy to issue you a new one.   Dog Tag Renewal Rates 2025.

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR DOG FOR 2025:

  1. Over the phone by calling 250-442-2708.  We are happy to take credit card payment over the phone. Receipt for payment will be held in our office for pick up at a time that is convenient for you.

  • If you reach our voicemail, PLEASE, leave a message.  We have created a system that has proven to be quite thorough, it just takes time to get back to everyone.  You can usually expect a response from our office within a week.
  1. In person at 2140 Central Ave.  We are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Animal control services are available where animal control bylaws are in effect in Electoral Areas C/Christina Lake and D/Rural Grand Forks. No animal control bylaw is in effect for Area E/West Boundary. For Area E/West Boundary, see the BC Conservation Officer Service information below. 

The BC Wildlife Act applies across the province and addresses animal control and wildlife.

To report an animal in distress, call the BC SPCA Provincial Call Centre:1.855.622.7722

For wildlife: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days per week.

For domestic animals or farm animals: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days per week. Closed on Statutory holidays.

If this is an animal emergency outside of SPCA hours, please contact your local police department , RCMP or the Conservation Officer Service (RAPP).
